Statement

The Prick of Patriarchy:

Is it possible to unpick and reweave the socially constructed stereotypes supported by many of the seminal works from the Western visual art Canon?

Ultimately, my art practice challenges the hierarchical norms created by patriarchy. This critique is not outwardly obvious. Rather, it is subtly communicated through material selection, methods of production and allegorical imagery borrowed from well known historical works.

I work in textiles, drawing & painting, often combining all three methods of production. This mixed media approach seeks to collapse the boundary that divides high from low art, and muddles attempts to neatly categorise the work.
